About GGG

Gem Grit Grinder is an all-gravel bicycle race on county gravel roads.  The race is open to everyone. Benefits the Emmett Valley Friendship Coalition and Food Bank.

Start, Finish, and Party at the Little Gem Cycle Park Emmett, ID (click for map)
Little Gem Cycle Park is located about 30-40 minutes Northwest of Boise, Idaho. 

From Boise:
  1. Take SR-44 west about 8 miles
  2. Turn north on SR-16 for about 11 miles
  3. Turn right onto Sand Hollow Road, continue about 1 mile to staging area
​Parking will be marked when you arrive at the cycle park.

Course Race Options
There are two distances to chose from based on your categories (explained more below): 
  • ​Race #1 "Whole Carat"  is ~44 miles long (2 loops)
  • Race #2 "Half Carat" is ~22 miles long (1 loop)

Course description: 
Leave from Little Gem Cycle Park. Proceed onto Sand Hollow Road. Continue onto Pearl Road (mile 7.5). Turn left onto Chaparral Road (mile 11). Turn left onto Willow Creek Road (mile 12.5). Continue on Pearl Road (mile 14.1). Continue onto Sand Hollow Road (mile
14.9). Race #2 "Half Carat" will finish when back at the Little Gem Cycle Park.  Race #1 "Whole Carat"  will continue for a second loop.

Course Conditions: 
  • This course is on county roads that are mostly maintained in the Spring, and tend to get sandy and more rough as the Summer progresses - true gravel grinder quality! 
  • We HIGHLY recommend you ride a gravel bike or cyclocross bike. Mountain bikes are ok, but we would recommend NOT riding road bikes. However, it is ultimately your choice :)

​Registration:

Registration is OPEN!!
Online registration will be available for $35 plus registration surcharges at www.usacycling.org
Online registration will close at 8:00pm on Friday, May 19th, 2017.
​Day-of registration will be available for $50, closing 20 minutes prior to race start for each flight.

Racing Categories & Prizes:

Fields will be raced together, scored separately.
  • Race #1: Men 1/2, Men 3, Men 4/5;  Women 1/2, Women 3, Women 4/5
    • 2 loops, about 44 miles
    • Start time: 9:00 am - Mass start
  • Race #2: Juniors Open, Men 4/5,  Master Men 50+ 3/4/5;  Women 4/5, Master Women 50+ Open 
    • 1 loop, about 22 miles
    • Start time 9:10 am - Mass start
  • Please note, Men 4/5 & Women 4/5 racers will have their choice of the two distances, however you must race in Race #1 (44 miles) be eligible for BAR/BAT points. 
Prizes: These will be based on the number of participants in each category, see below.
  • 1-5 registrants: No prizes
  • 6-14 registrants : Non-cash prizes
  • 15+ registrants: $50 first place, $35 second place, $20 third place

 

Lodging: 

 There is no overnight camping on site at the race, however there are many please to camp overnight in the surrounding area, or even more luxurious lodging via hotels if you want a warm shower. 
Camping:
  • ​The City of Emmett has the East 10th Street RV Park open. $25/night up to 12 RV's with water, sewer & power hookups.  There are newly built bathrooms for public use.
