The Boise VeloWomen were VERY busy this month, competing in various events, disciplines, and in several different states!  Read below for results for Tour of Walla Walla in Washington; Sea Otter Classic in California;  The Race to Robie Creek 1/2 Marathon in Boise, Idaho; Bengal Triathlon in Pocatello, ID; and Sagebrush Scramble XC MTB race in Boise, ID!

Tour of Walla Walla is a stage race that takes place in the heart of wine country in Washington, and includes hundreds of competitors from around the Northwest. The 4 stages of the race include the Wilson Hollow Time Trial and Waitsburg Road Race on day 1, Downtown Criterium on day 2, and Kellogg Hollow Road Race on day 3. The four stages include about 86 miles and 5400, not including the criterium. Our teammate, Kelsey S, raced strong and earned third overall in the entire race!!

4/14-4/17: Sea Otter Classic, Monterey, California

Three BVW took a 1500 mile adventure across the west to Monterey, California for the N.Cal season opener for cycling. Sea Otter Classic is a 4-day event that includes competition for nearly all disciplines of cycling. Kali Protectives hosted our three women on site at Leguna Seca for the races. Our teammates did their best to represent Idaho and our sponsors by competing in many different events. Theresa S. raced in the circuit race and road race, Nadine C raced in cyclocross, XC MTB, and the circuit race, and Joy A. raced in the Pro short track MTB and Pro XC MTB races. These ladies were quite competitive throughout their events, including Nadine taking the 1st place podium spot for Cat 3 women. Hopefully next year purple and red will be a more prominent color at Sea Otter!

4/16: The Race to Robie Creek, Boise, Idaho

BVW has several competitive runners who train hard for both cycling and running throughout the year. Two of our best runners participated in "the hardest 1/2 marathon in the Northwest" called The Race to Robie Creek.  Tiedji B and Trisha W both completed the race in fun costumes! Trisha earned 4th in her age group with 1:17:41. Tiedji finished 1:45:18.

4/23: Knobby Tire Sagebrush Scramble, Boise, Idaho

Sagebrush Scramble is a short track XC MTB race produced by Knobby Tire Series. Mother nature made it extra fun this year by adding MUD! BVW came away with two spots on the podium in Cat 3, including Erin M. 2nd place, and Erin S. 3rd.

4/22-4/23: Bengal Triathlon, Pocatello, Idaho

Many of our team members like to "tri" multiple sports. Last weekend, two such members tried their best at the Spring opener Bengal Triathlon in Pocatello, ID, known for its unpredictable weather and predictable wind. This yearly triathlon has a less traditional format, which includes the 750 yard swim on Friday, followed by a 12 mile bike and 3 mile run on Saturday.  Jessica G. and Nadine C. trained together all Spring, and were able to finish competitively, especially in the cycling portions. Nadine finished 10th of 38 in her age group, and Jessica finished 20th of 38 in her age group.

Memorable quote: "I'm not sure if I was more wet after the swim or the bike"... Jessica G.

Women empowerment groups like you are really important to the community. I know a lot of people that hate you, but they are the close minded people. If you ask me, we need more groups and organizations who will fight for a rightful cause. I am not saying that women empowerment is the most important, but it is one of the more pressing issues in our community right now. I hope that we can all just support them instead of berating them.
