7/9/2016: Pedal Through the Corners
Our friend and fellow cyclist Brian Tromburg (of Team UpCycle Boise - formally Boise Rush) had a unique idea of crowd-funding to raise money to host a criterium race. The crowd-funding page went up several months prior to the race and those making donations had the option of participating in the race, or not. The race was 100% funded by those that wanted to participate and the dollar amount was up to the individual's discretion. The race was held at the Scentsy Commons in Meridian, a unique and surprisingly fun location. The race flowed through most of the parking lot and actually ran through a round-a-bout! (you can see some of the round-a-bout shenanigans & BVWs in this video: click here!!) It was a fun and fast course. Your Boise Velos showed up in full force, six BVWs total out of the eight women in Cat 1/2/3/4 (combined and scored together). The woman's race started quick and fast, setting a competitive pace and didn't ease up until the finish line 40 minutes later. Anna Megale (Cat 3) took 1st, Erin Shelton in 2nd and Kelsey Spiegel in 3rd (both Cat 4); a podium sweep despite our team racing against two very skilled and strong riders! We appreciate the friendly competition and love riding with other teams. Other BVWs who raced their lungs and legs off were Tiedji Baker, Nadine Carter and Jessica Grunke.
June & July SWICA Crits 3,4,5,6
The weekly SWICA Crtis kept rolling every week through June and into July. (http://www.idahobikeracing.org/swica-crits.html) The Boise VeloWomen were invited to host races 4, 5 and 6 by arranging course set-up and tear-down, managing (juggling?) registrations and same-day race licences and serve as official Popsicle dealers. We asked our fellow BVW teammates to come volunteer and join in on the fun! These races are in the evening in the large parking lot next to the Western Idaho Fairgrounds (read: no shade, super hot). Despite the heat, we were able to have fun, serve our cycling community and earn a little team money for our time. We appreciate the opportunity! Also, thank you to all our BVW husbands and significant others who helped out with the crit races too. We couldn't do it without you!
Oh - and many BVW volunteered and/or raced throughout the SWICA Crit season too: Tiedji Baker, Morgan Cornwall, Morgan Miller, Nadine Carter, Jessica Grunke, Anna Megale, Allison Miller, Nicole Warner, Evee Vickers, Erin Morra, Leah Mullen, Erin Shelton, Kelsey Spiegel, Theresa Steger, Nicole Warner, and Trisha Wineman. This event is great because spectators can view the whole course, free of cars and other obstacles and our kids can meet up and play together. It was a great series that we look forward to every year!
